Paris with Fujifilm’s X100V

As a photographer who likes to travel light, Fujifilm’s X100V is typically the only camera I’ll take with me on trips away.

Don’t get me wrong, Fujifilm’s X-T3 (my other ‘main’ camera over the past few years) is by no means bulky; however, when you chuck in a couple of lenses the weight can start to add up!

Also, because the X100V has a fixed 23mm lens it means you have one less thing to think about every day. Just stick it in a small bag and you’re away.

This was the first time I’d visited Paris since the spring of 1999. I was only 12 back then and, in truth, my memories of the place were hazy at best.

Regrettably, I don’t possess a single photograph from that school trip - though I did return with a bout of bronchitis after playing football in the pouring rain for a couple of hours, but that’s a story for another day!

With the X100V in my Peak Design camera bag, though, there was no danger of me returning to Kent empty-handed.

Like every major city, Paris has its pros and cons. I’m still not over being charged an eye-watering €7.5 for a bottle of water in a tourist-trap restaurant near the Eiffel Tower.

But on the whole, Anya (my wife) and I thoroughly enjoyed our few days exploring one of the most iconic cities in the world.

Unlike Lanzarote, where I also travelled with Fujifilm’s X100V earlier this year, Paris isn’t a destination I’d personally recommend taking young children to. If you decide otherwise then respect: you’re a much braver parent than me!

But as a place to get away for a few days with your significant other, there are few better cities in Europe.

The only slight regret is that we couldn’t have tour of the Parc des Princes, Paris Saint-Germain’s stadium, during our fleeting visit.

Unlike at the grounds of other major European football clubs, tours at PSG’s stadium are only run on a couple of days each week. I’d recommend booking tickets well in advance if it’s something you’re particularly keen to do while you’re there.

I’ll now leave you with a handful of photos from the trip (Note: All shot in JPEG and tweaked using Lightroom)

Locations include the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre and Sacre Coeur.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, so please leave a comment at the bottom of the page if you wish to do so!
