Dubrovnik Through the Lens of Fujifilm’s X100V
There really is something magical and almost other-worldly about Dubrovnik — the way the Adriatic Sea sparkles under the late afternoon sun, the way centuries-old stone walls glow gold as evening sets in. Even if you’ve never seen Game of Thrones (like us!), it’s still one of the most breathtaking and fascinating places you could wish to visit.
I spent three unforgettable days in the Croatian city in May 2025, and I’m excited to share some highlights and moments captured through my trusty Fujifilm X100V - a camera I’ve owned since January 2021.
Day One: Golden Hour on the City Walls
Capturing Dubrovnik’s Golden Glow
After arriving and settling in at our hotel (I can happily recommend the Royal Palm Hotel), my wife and I decided to visit Dubrovnik’s iconic City Walls - timing our visit for 5pm, partly because we knew it wouldn’t be as busy. Golden hour proved to be the perfect time — the light wrapped the Old Town in a warm embrace, casting long shadows and igniting the terracotta rooftops.
Although €40 per person felt quite steep at the time, it was absolutely worth the money. It takes around 1.5-2 hours to complete the trail, which might not seem that long when you’ve paid €40 for a ticket, but in return you get the most priceless views.
Tip: Go early in the day or late afternoon to avoid the crowds.
Day Two: Lokrum Island & Wandering Old Town
Botanical Details and Island Wildlife
Our first morning brought a lovely 15-minute ferry ride to Lokrum Island. With its lush botanical gardens and rocky shores, Lokrum was a peaceful escape from the bustling city. The X100V’s compact size made it easy to explore without feeling weighed down, and I loved shooting the contrast between the island’s greenery and the deep blues of the surrounding sea. In the afternoon, we wandered the narrow alleys of the Old Town, capturing little moments along the way.
Day Three: Views from Mount Srd
The Climb (and the Reward) — Reaching the Summit
On day three, we made our way up to Mount Srd, where sweeping views over Dubrovnik awaited. From up there, the walled city looked like something out of a fairytale — a perfect blend of history, architecture, and sea. The X100V’s fixed lens always helps me to slow down and compose more thoughtfully, which hopefully shows in the images I captured from this vantage point.
Tip: You can get the No. 17 bus, which takes you to Bosanka bus stop (roughly 15-20 walk up a steep hill to Mount Srd). Or you can get an Uber. Both much cheaper than Cable Car.
One Last Dubrovnik Sunset
One of Europe’s Most Beautiful Cities
I made sure to soak up one last sunset before heading home. Throughout the trip, the evenings delivered the most breathtaking colours — purples, pinks, oranges melting into the Adriatic horizon. There’s a softness in those moments that the X100V seemed to pick up effortlessly, and they’re some of my favourite shots from the trip.
Dubrovnik is a place where history and nature blend seamlessly, and with the right light and the right camera, every corner becomes a story worth telling.
